Oh, sweet Daughter of Nature

Thrown down, down, down into the depths of the Underworld

Taken by force, so tempting of pure radiance

Residing on a throne of bleeding bones

Queen of screaming souls, innocence corrupted by shadows

Corralled in the tormenting land of freezing hellfire

Defiled by the Lord of the Dead

Tricked by cruel fate to taste the forbidden fruit

To remain forever a prisoner until wrapped in a mother's loving embrace

Weep not, Fair Maiden, for deliverance is at hand

By the kiss of a saccharine summer breeze
Oh my gosh, I have finally written something pertaining to my namesake (well, the latter half of it) on this website.

My favorite person in mythology. Persephone (Kore by the Romans), daughter of the goddess of the harvest, Demeter, and wife to Hades; kidnapped by said god of the Underworld, tricked by the gardener to eat the single seed of a pomegranate; and rescued by her mother so she spends the summers up on earth and the winters down with Hades. I could go in depth, since I know the legend by heart, but I will spare you the major details.

You have no idea how much I love her. I wish I could have lived in ancient Greece, just to become a devout follower of her. She's a role model of mine, to be truthful.

But this little poem does not do Persephone justice. However, it was the only thing I could come up with. I just wanted to at last show my love for her; maybe someday I'll make a better piece dedicated to The Maiden.

This story was always my favorite in Greek mythology, and honestly the only one I can always remember. I think this does pretty good justice to her, actually. c:

Always love Greek mythology, and write about it as long as you want to. It's amazing, and this came out excellent.

This is beautiful. I absolutely adore it, and I always thought the tale of Persephone was an interesting and very intriguing one. It's probably my favourite myth.

You're very welcome. ^^ There's just something about the myth itself that I really love. It's just absolutely fascinating.

I love the way you've adapted this classical tale into poetry! It flows so nicely and the contrasts really stand out. Great work!

Ah, you really think so? I...honestly wanted it to be much better--I feel like Persephone deserves much better than what I come up with. But this was all I could get down.

The flow truly is wonderful here. It just read right along in my mind, and when I read it out loud too. Plus, getting something down is just the start. You can always go back to edit and revise later. Or come up with something totally new. Or come up with several versions and put them together in whatever way seems best. But I still think this one is lovely. ^^

I knew what this was going to be about as soon as I saw the title :) It's really pretty. I think you've got a way with poetry.

Also Mercedes Lackey has this book series called The 500 Kingdoms. There's six now (I think) and they're all based on mythology and folklore from cultures all over the world. The most recent one she wrote is a novella using the Persephone myth. She changes the story around a bit, but it's really good and I think you'd like it all the same. You should check it out. It's called 'A Tangled Web'.

Is it that obvious? I couldn't think of any other title...but thank you, thank you very much.

...I think I read the one based off of Beauty and the Beast. I liked it. Welp, I know what my next literary conquest will be.

Not really. It just seemed to fit.

And they're all good. Though for some reason the odd numbered ones seem to be better than the even numbered ones.

What a coincidence, we were just talking about the story of Demeter and Persephony today in my World Mythology class. Well written by the way. Good job ^_^

I LOVE IT. I did my research paper (seven pages long) on it last year, I love it so much. Literally, Persephone is my favorite goddess. Hell...I probably believe in her more than "God". But anyway...thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
